Istanbul’s meeting number increased 75 percent in 2019

International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) released its annual country and city rankings. In 2019, Istanbul hosted 58 meetings and is now in the 44th place in the world and 27th place in Europe.

ICOC and ICVB President Şekib Avdagiç commented on Istanbul’s rising trend and said: “Every year, ICCA releases its rankings by number of international association meetings. When we look at Istanbul’s place within the rankings, the statistics show us that Istanbul’s meeting number increased 75 percent last year. Our city has been in a rising trend for the past 3 years. We jumped to 84th place from 133rd and now we are in the 44th place in the world. Istanbul’s potential within the meeting industry is undeniable because our city is a unique destination with its different treasurable aspects. We now consider 2020 the year of planning, and we have been working on our long-term meeting plans for the upcoming years for a while now. Our goal, for now, is to make sure Istanbul gets into top 20. Hopefully, after seeing a full recovery for the world, Istanbul will continue to rise within the rankings and the industry.”
